The Priory

Ria Latham

Imagine...

‎ a highly transmissible pandemic which kills the ‎infected person in forty-eight hours. Imagine then that the earth conspires to ‎throw up lava and ash from several volcanoes and cause multi seismic ‎activities and quakes which rip open oil and fuel lines, break dams and ‎cause tsunamis. Imagine then that gigantic storms ravage the earth ‎flooding cities and towns alike, sea levels rise beyond comprehension ‎and all communications stop. Anarchy rules as communities diminish. ‎What would you do?‎

The depleted populous of a small Hampshire village are invited to leave ‎their homes due to the dangers of the disease and from the gangs of ‎vicious looters and move to the local Priory which is surrounded by ‎high walls and hedges and can be more easily defended.‎
This is the story of survival after huge catastrophic devastations, ‎leadership and harsh decisions and how a new order develops mainly ‎due to the intrepid actions of Annie Spencer, her courageous family ‎and not forgetting her highly prized show horse Saltimbanque.‎
Annie does not always get it right and suffers the consequences of her ‎rash decisions but her loyal followers manage to commandeer a local ‎steam engine, blow up a service station where a raiding biker gang ‎hang out, roam the local area on horseback to garner provisions and ‎survive against all the odds and lootings. ‎
The finding of Edith Bone an elderly local woman and her knowledge of ‎old world herbal remedies saves many a life and the arrival of a small ‎group of gypsies enhance what could have been a dour existence. ‎
How long can they survive?‎
