The French Way

Lorraine Thomson

The historic pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela dates back to the Middle Ages and now attracts hundreds of thousands of pilgrims every year from all over the world.

This story follows Lorraine's path along ‘The French Way' from St-Jean-Pied-de-Port to Roncesvalles and then on to Santiago de Compostela through the cities of Pamplona, Logrono, Burgos and Leon.
With beautiful descriptions of the landscape and historic landmarks along the route, Lorraine keeps us entertained with her own stories, along with the tales of the many pilgrims she meets along the way - each one with their own reason for travelling these paths, and each completing it in their own style.

Lorraine is determined to make every step of the way under her own steam, and we share in the honest account of her trials and tribulations brought on by exhaustion, heat and the agony of blisters. But the challenges en-route are more than matched by the amazing experiences and the spiritual and life-affirming moments of contemplation that accompany them.

With lots of practical advice about accommodation and preparation, this is a must-read for anyone contemplating a similar adventure.
