Salt and Pepper: BrideMaids

Maria Akhanji

Ranya, a young British Bangladeshi Muslim, is due to marry Fahim, a handsome, seemingly sensitive young man and family friend. She is optimistic about her marriage, her future, and her new family of in-laws, whose house she'll be moving into. However, things aren't what she expected, and no matter how hard Ranya tries to be a dutiful wife and daughter-in-law, she can never do enough for her new family. She finds herself spending every day doing exhausting housework, being shunned by her in-laws, and ignored by her new husband, leaving her feeling more like a maid than a bride. Can Ranya save her marriage, repair her relationships, and get her life back on track?

ABOUT MARIA AKHANJI

Maria Akhanji is a British Bangladeshi Muslim writer. She has completed her BA (Hons) in Child Development. She wrote her debut novel, Salt and Pepper: Unearthing Taboos due to the lack of accurate representation of the taboo issues embedded in this ethnic minority. She is currently editing the second volume in the Salt and Pepper trilogy, titled, BrideMaids.

She developed her writing on youwriteon.com and both her books were featured in the Top Ten Chart on that website. Her books explore issues such as child molestation, Asian in-laws, "family politics" and the double standards that often overshadow Asian culture.

Her books centre on the trials and tribulations of British Asian/Muslim women; however, her writing could give a male audience a quintessential insight into a realm that is commonly experienced yet often left unexplored.
