Our Em Volume IV My Em

Wilfred Summers

In this fourth and last volume of Our Em, the finely woven loose ends of the previous three are tied up, mostly in unpredictable ways.

Em has made her way to London, but how will she and Freddie, two strangers, be able to set up house and provide a home for his sisters? With her real aim being a home in Liverpool, will Freddie be able to adapt to repeated interruptions in both his working life and his relationships? Will George be able to renew his contact with Em, and what about her other family members?

Within the framework of some of the most significant historical events of the early nineteen-fifties, further surprises await the reader, leading on from the previous volumes as well as introducing new characters and circumstances. Between the Prologue to Volume I and the Epilogue to Volume IV, a line has been traced which ultimately completes the circle of this fascinating narrative.

I was born in Liverpool in 1934, and placed in the care of the National Children's Homes from the age of two to sixteen, living on the Isle of Man during the war, in Nottingham from VJ Day to 1949, and lastly in the NCH Hostel in Highbury. The book includes much of my early life story. I joined the Royal Air Force in 1955 as an aircraft fitter and was posted to Singapore, but received a medical discharge due to the effect of the climate on my health. On returning to civilian life, I worked mainly as an electrician. I have been married twice and have three children, four grandchildren and one great grandchild. I am now living in the Isle of Man. As well as writing, my interests include drawing portraits, learning to play the piano, and assisting young people in Tanzania through education and medical care.
