UNRAVELLINGS

Veronica Bennetts

‘Unravellings' is a fast-moving, dramatic, gut-wrenching roller coaster of a story that will leave you breathless, shocked and inspired
It is the second novel in the trilogy ‘Love's Tangled Tapestry'
A young nun, Hope O'Neill, orphaned at birth, sets out from Ireland to find her unknown father's family members, eventually discovering them in Southwark, London. During her search, she is brutally raped by a group of criminal thugs, which results in her becoming pregnant. The story centres on Hope as a mother as she unravels the circumstances around the life of Gary Johnson, a troubled, disturbed and violent young man who was one of her rapists.
Through a series of dangerous encounters, including a near-lethal stabbing, a reckless theft and a dramatic river rescue, Gary eventually comes under the influence of Hope's family and the quietly charismatic priest, Oliver Lockwood, together with his youth assistant, Robbie. Their lives become entwined as Oliver and Robbie seek to support Gary. Influenced by the priest and her newly found family, Hope strives to find it in her heart to be reconciled with her rapist.
Gary's mother arrives on the scene having served her sentence for a series of shocking crimes, and seeks to influence Gary back onto a path of crime with her. Will Gary have the strength to resist?
Despite the interweaving of inspiring themes of love, hope and reconciliation within the plot which might indicate the promise of a happy ending, Gary's actions will take your breath away and leave you reeling.

ABOUT VERONICA BENNETTS

Veronica is a musician, teacher and writer whose career spans composing, writing, theatre direction and teaching. Studying music, English literature and education at Cambridge, she also holds a master of education degree from Liverpool University. One of her main loves is teaching young people of all ages and abilities, using in particular the power of the story as a tool to aid creativity. She was the director of education and in-house writer for Stagecoach Theatre Arts and music co-ordinator of the Chester Mystery Plays. She is deeply interested in young people who have been damaged or who struggle with the impact of early life events. Whilst training as a volunteer for the N.S.P.C.C. she learnt more about the tenacity and courage that characterise so many young victims. These insights have influenced her writing of Twisted Threads, Unravellings and Rogue Strands. Veronica has written and compiled many performing arts works (music, story and lyrics), and now devotes her time to her passion for writing, her work on a hospital pastoral team, her four grown-up children, her many grandchildren, and - of course - her two golden retriever dogs. Her late husband was the Bishop of Coventry.
