His stories inspired the book: An Interview with Silvia Miles

His stories inspired the book: An Interview with Silvia Miles

The love for a sibling, speaking from experience, is unmatched.

Sorry parents! The rivalry is too gripping and the connection too strong! Having an older sibling can be a guiding light, whilst a younger sibling keeps you joyful and silly.

We spoke with Silvia Miles, author of Baby Sister is a Superhero, about her own sibling experience, being the mother of two wonderful children, and we even asked her about her own superpowered ideas.

Baby Sister is a Superhero was released in March this year, but the original Portuguese edition, Minha irmã tem superpoderes, was released last year. Have there been any changes between publications?

Yes, there are some small differences in the story. In the Portuguese version, for example, our superhero’s use of pacifiers to charge up their superpowers is not mentioned.

To share this funny and creative story must have required some knowledge of what young children are really like. Do you have siblings which you’ve drawn experiences from for use in the book? If not, who were your leading inspirations?

My leading inspirations were my children. When my daughter came home from the hospital as a baby, my son used to make up fantastical stories about her, saying she was a superhero.

His stories inspired the book.

As the mother of two young superheroes (who have helped you in promoting your book), how was the writing of Baby Sister is a Superhero shaped by them and what made you want to write this for them?

As mentioned above, the story of our brave baby superhero and her brother is inspired by my son and my daughter, and the love they have for each other.

I wanted to write this book because I greatly enjoy my son’s imagination and the stories he used to make up about his sister.

This question is just a little bit of fun… if you could have one superhero to help or expand your life, which one would you choose? Personally, I’d like to stop time – you’d never be late again!

I’d really like to be able to fly, like Superman. This would be especially helpful when there’s a lot of traffic!

Finally, superhero movies are always coming back with sequels, and we love this story too much. Do you intend on writing another superpowered book or are you looking elsewhere?

I might – I haven’t decided yet. Getting this book published was a lot of work, and I am taking a little break before launching my next project.
